‘Society does not set standard for God’s laws’

To the Editor,Who makes the rules?I would like to acknowledge Dan Cathy, President of Chick-fil-A Restaurants, and the outpouring of support following his recent comments on traditional marriage. Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was a memorable event. The response at Westfield Franklin Park Mall and across the nation was phenomenal throughout the day and the evening. Some came to support freedom of speech, but it gave hope for our nation that most participants stood for morality at a time when the liberal media is consistently attempting to show a groundswell of support for the gay agenda.Cathy’s controversial statement given on the Ken Coleman radio show was simple. “I think we’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say ‘we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’ And I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude that thinks we have the audacity to redefine what marriage is all about.”An article in the July 16 Baptist Press quotes Cathy as saying that he is “guilty as charged” and is very “supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit.” Cathy takes his conviction straight from the Bible — God being our authority (Genesis 2:24).God declares that homosexuality is a sin and that all sin can and will be forgiven if repented; but God is not mocked. Romans 1: 18-32 portrays the chilling downward spiral of sin to the point that “God gave them up” and “God gave them over” when known truth is rejected. Many pastors and churches today aim to be politically correct and present homosexuality as being acceptable, but society does not set the standard for God’s laws. We cannot condone what God has condemned.Barack Obama is the only President who has endorsed this sin in our nation; and on August 11 the national Democratic Party’s platform committee endorsed gay marriage for the first time and called for the repeal of a federal law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman. A committee member for the party states that “support for gay marriage can attract new voters.”These recent endorsements are treading in dangerous territory, and it should make it a very clear decision for all God-fearing citizens in the upcoming election. We are free to choose, but we are not free to choose the consequences.Ronda KeckSand Creek
