William Ambrose Coughlin III

05/31/1953 4/24/2018

William Ambrose Coughlin III passed away on April 24, 2018 at Shell Point Hospice in Fort Myers, Fla. where he had been since Sunday, April 15.

William was a friend to all he met. A kind, sociable Irishman who enjoyed telling stories, listening to his friends and constantly in search of the Best Day of The Year (BDOY). He lived life to the fullest and left us all without regret.

William was the first born son of William A. Coughlin Jr. (1922-2001) and Marilyn Loraine (Nanry) Coughlin (1927-2017). He is survived by his three children and their spouses; Courtney (Dus-tin) Smith, Collin (Kristen) Coughlin, Elizabeth (Shane) Bruner and their son Max, two. William loved his time with Max and was thrilled with the birth of his first grandson. William was proud of all his children’s lives and accomplishments. He is also survived by his siblings Kathleen, Daniel (Joanne) and Chuck (Patricia).

William was born in Ann Arbor, Mich. and was a devout Catholic. He attended St. Francis grade school where he was baptized and received the sacraments of the church.  Later in life he became a lector during mass and was proud to serve the local parishes in the communities he lived.

After graduating from Huron High School, William attended and graduated from Indiana University in 1975.  It was at Indiana he met and later married Ann Denise Johnson (1976) the mother to their three children.

William began his career in human relations for Hoover Ball and Bearing and continued there through many years after their purchase by Johnson Controls. He later worked for and retired from Stanley Automotive in Columbus, Ohio.  While in Columbus, he made a great group of friends at his golf club, Hickory Hills. He participated in many tournaments and enjoyed the company of a great many members.

After retirement, he moved to Fort Myers, Fla. to be near his sister, Kathleen.  It was here he found love and happiness with his faithful companion Patti Johnston, who helped him immensely in the later stages.  The family is indebted to Aunt Kathleen and Patti for their care of William.

While his life was cut short, he will be remembered for his smile, his humor, his love of life, and his desire to live every day to its greatest end. Cheers!

A reception was held in Bill’s honor at the Chapel at Hope Hospice at Healthpark at 2 p.m. May 6, 2018, followed by a short reception at the Fantasy Island Clubhouse in Parker Lakes hosted by Patti Johnston.

Memorial visitation will be held at Nie Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd, Ann Arbor, from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2018, with a rosary planned for 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018. Burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, Fla., 33908, donate.hopehcs.org.

Those we love don’t go away,

They walk beside us every day,

Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Still loved, still missed and very dear
