Vera M. Gardner

Vera M. Gardner, age 85, of Tecumseh, passed away August 13, 2016 at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home.  She was born December 29, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Clarence A. and Anna (Muma) Scott, Sr. On October 16, 1971 she married LeRoy N. Gardner in Tecumseh, Mich., and he survives.

Vera was a graduate of Britton High School, Class of 1949. She then immediately began her career working for the Village of Tecumseh. During Vera’s career, she saw the transition of Tecumseh from Village to City. She was employed 38 years with the City of Tecumseh, the last 12 years serving as City clerk/treasurer.

Following her resignation from the City of Tecumseh, she went on to serve 12 years as an elected City Council member, including two years as mayor, and one term as a Lenawee County Commissioner.

In addition to her husband LeRoy, Vera is survived by a daughter, Renee (Terry) Selders of Bryson City, N.C.; grandson, Jeremy (Angel) Selders of Franklin, N.C.; sister, Caroline (Frederick) Holland; brother, Wilbur Scott; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Clarence Scott, Sr., mother, Anna O’Neil and brother, Clarence Scott, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Rev. Mark Miller of Tecumseh United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh.
