The Tecumseh Area Chamber of  Commerce, Black Fire Winery and Tecumseh Brewing Company are sponsoring The Top O' The Morning Festival to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The Tecumseh Area Chamber of Commerce, Black Fire Winery and Tecumseh Brewing Company have collaborated to create a new event celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. The Top O’ the Mornin’ 5k Fun Run and Festival will take place Saturday, March 14 at the Market on Evans, 213 N. Evans St., with the fun run starting at 9:30 a.m. and the festival to take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

For a $35 registration fee, which includes a t-shirt, a festival ticket and a goody bag, those interested in taking part in the fun run may sign up at runmichigan.com or raceentry.com. Online registration will be open until March 11, then it will close. Registration the day of the event will be $40 and will take place from 8-9 a.m. at The Market on Evans.

Entry to the festival, which is a fundraiser for the chamber, will be $5, with tickets only available at the event. Those 12 and under will be admitted for free. “There will be beer, wine, cider and food,” said Jessica Stretch, the chamber’s event coordinator and market manager. “There will be games for all ages, and music.”

The Glen Leven Band from Ann Arbor will perform Irish pub rock along with roots, rockabilly, bluegrass, novelty songs and plenty of originals. Food will be provided by Tecumseh Brewing Company’s (TBC) “Truck Norris” food truck, with 3 Dudes & Dinner offering corned beef, cabbage, and shepherd’s pie, and TBC will provide beverages along with Black Fire Winery.

A “Shamrock Shake” contest will be open to all ages, with a prize for the winner. “It’s a game where you have to shake your booty to get ping pong balls out of a box,” said Stretch.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in St. Patrick’s Day attire to receive a prize. Wearing a green shirt, necklace or just a hat will not qualify as a prizewinner. The event organizers would like to see some fun and creative costumes. All ages are eligible to receive a prize, but to qualify one must be a 5k fun run participant or a Top O’ the Mornin’ event guest.

“The event will go on rain or shine, and if it’s rainy or really cold there will be a large tent there,” Stretch said.

The chamber is seeking volunteers for the Top O’ the Mornin’ event. Those interested in helping may sign up on the Signup Genius link on the Top O’ the Mornin’ 5k Fun Run & Festival event page on Facebook. Volunteers do not have to purchase a ticket to get in the event.
