Tecumseh woman dies in car crash

Brittany E. Ames, of Tecumseh, was killed Monday, Aug. 18, in a car crash. She was 22 and a 2011 graduate from Tecumseh High School. The crash occurred at the intersection of Stein and S. Telegraph Roads in LaSalle Twp., Mich. just after 5 p.m. Ames’ 2011 Mercury Marnier was heading west on Stein Road, driving over the railroad tracks, colliding with a 2008 International medium-duty tow truck traveling north on S. Telegraph Road. According to witnesses, Ames failed to stop for the posted stop sign. After the impact, both vehicles traveled off the northwest side of the intersection and came to rest along the shoulder of the roadway. Ames was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The tow truck driver, Scott A. Kopke, 45, of St. Claire Shores, was not injured and refused medical treatment. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Neither speed, nor alcohol appears to be factors in the crash. The crash is under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734.240.7768.
