Tecumseh gymnasts break another team score record
On Wednesday night, Feb. 11, Tecumseh’s varsity gymnastics team broke its team score record again with a 133.8-132.4 victory at Parma Western. The win improved Tecumseh’s league record to 3-2.Tecumseh placed first (Alaina Carr, 8.875) second (Brianna Price, 8.65) and third (Morgan Cadmus, 8.6) on vault.Kelsey Bogrow placed third on bars (8.2) for Tecumseh. The Indians tied their own beam record set earlier this season with Madison Harkness placing second (8.55) and Cadmus placing third (8.5).Carlee Swan (8.75) won the floor event while Cadmus was second (8.625).“Tonight, we had some girls out resting their bodies for this Saturday’s SCGL [league] championship meet, so to pull off a win and another record breaking night was incredible,” said Tecumseh coach Jen Poston. “We still have work to be done, more difficulty to add, and some cleaning up to do, but I know this team will keep pushing forward.”The team had a scary moment during the floor event when Sophomore Hannah Swirple landed wrong in her opening tumbling pass and hurt her knee. She was taken to the hospital for a possible ACL tear.The Indians traveled to Saline on Saturday, Feb. 14, to compete in the South Central Gymnastics League Championship meet and placed third with a score of (131.45). Jackson Lumen Christi (139.75) placed first while Saline (135.975) was second.Tecumseh had multiple All-League gymnasts including Carr was (3rd vault, 8.7), Cadmus (6th, vault, 8.65, 10th floor, 8.7), Harkness (7th vault, 8.6, 7th beam, 8.225, 4th floor, 9.0, 4th All-Around, 33.625), Swan (8th beam, 8.15, 7th floor, 8.75), and Bogrow (10th All-Around, 31.375).“We were definitely feeling the pressure of the championship meet today, some of our girls handled it really well and others struggled,” said Poston. “Our focus now is going to be on getting our mindset right for Regionals and hopefully state.”
