Tecumseh golfers end season with eighth place finish in Division 2 Regionals

At Calderone Farms Golf Club in Jackson on Wednesday, May 27, in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 Boys Golf Regionals, Tecumseh placed eighth out of 12 teams to end its season.Tecumseh scored 349 for the day. Tecumseh coach Kevin Osworth said that windy conditions were challenging. The top three teams advance to the state meet. Chelsea placed first with a score of 320 while Linden was second with 323. Divine Child was third with 330.Brendan Meadows of Gibraltar Carlson had the day’s low round with 78. His teammate Brendan Mason scored 79 and Brent Trela of Trenton scored 81 to make the top three individual state qualifiers.Leading the way for the Indians were sophomore Drew Whelan and senior Al Gillen with each shooting 85. Tecumseh senior Oscar Widen followed four strokes behind with 89 while senior Kody McCrate carded 90. “Though we lacked the team score at regionals to advance to states, I am certain that it was within us. It was a season of accomplishments, a season to be proud of!” Osworth said.On Thursday, May 21, Tecumseh traveled to Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden and won the district championship. The Indians recorded their best team finish of the season, shooting a 333 to earn the district title. Tecumseh had McCrate and Gillen led the Indians. McCrate shot an even par 36 on the back nine while Gillen was three strokes behind with 39 on his opening nine holes. McCrate finished the day with an 82 and Gillen finished with the Indians’ low round, carding 81. His score of 81 earned him top-five honors as a medalist. Whelan carded 83 for Tecumseh while junior Drew Kapnick carded 87. Widen rounded out the Indians team score with an 88.
