Tecumseh’s track teams finish sixth as hosts of SEC White Division Championships

TECUMSEH — On Friday, May 13, Tecumseh’s varsity track and field teams hosted the Southeastern Conference White Division Championships and both the boys and girls teams finished sixth out of six competing teams.

Chelsea placed first in the boys division with a score of 174 while Dexter was second with 124. Rounding out the teams were Ypsilanti (121), Lincoln (82), Adrian (66.5) and Tecumseh   (57.5).

In the girls division, Dexter was first with a score of 159   while Chelsea was second with 154.5. Rounding out the teams were Adrian (106.5), Lincoln (88), Ypsilanti (63) and Tecumseh (54).

In the boys competition, Tecumseh’s highest placer was senior Jeff Case, placing second in the 800-meter.

The 100-meter winner was Jonathan Edwards (11.13) of Lincoln while Bailey Edwards (11.23) of Chelsea placed second. Tecumseh’s Meger finished third in 11.33.

In the 200-meter event, Chelsea’s Bailey Edwards was first (22.13). Meger placed fourth for Tecumseh in 23.2.

Meger (51.49) also placed fourth in the 400-meter. Lincoln’s Zaqwon Powell (49.65) placed first in the event.

Dexter junior Jack Shelley (1:58.01) won the 800-meter while Tecumseh senior Jeff Case placed second in 1:59.95. Senior Tommy Mammel placed fifth (2:03.23) for Tecumseh.

The 1,600-meter was won by Dexter junior Marc Lopez (4:29.35).

Tom Oates (9:57.50) of Chelsea placed first in the 3,200-meter.

Chelsea senior Noah VanReesema (15.07) placed first in the 110-meter hurdles.  Tecumseh sophomore Payton Norkey (15.67) placed third.

VanReesema (39.60) also won the 300-meter hurdles. Norkey (43.41) placed fifth in the event.

Ypsilanti won the 4x100 relay (no time listed) and the 4x200 relay (Earlando Hughes, Calvin Cannon, Corey Hall, Marquis Smith, 1:30.14).

Chelsea placed first in the 4x400 relay (3:28.83). Tecumseh placed fourth in the event (Tom Mammel, Case, Jacob Denison, Norkey, 3:32.01).

In the 4x800 relay, Dexter was first (8:22.18), Chelsea second (8:49.64) and Tecumseh third (9:06.11).

The Shot Put event was won by Chelsea senior Ty McTaggart (47’-9”). He also placed first in the discus event (138’7”).

Ypsilanti junior Steven Anderson (6”) placed first in the high jump while Dexter senior Nate Shay (13’-7”) placed first in the pole vault. Tecumseh’s Ray Vigo (10’-7”) placed fifth in the event.

The long jump was won by Lincoln senior Jonathan Edwards (21’-08.75”).

For the girls, The Indians were led by junior Christina Sawyer with a second place finish in the 800-meter and first places in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Ypsilanti sophomore Cherell Smith (12.85) placed first in the 100-meter while Ypsilanti freshman Sandra Guiford (26.73) placed first in the 200-meter.

Adrian senior Hannah Bible (1:00.91) placed first in the 400-meter. Tecumseh’s Rachel Stockford placed fifth (1:06.21).

Tecumseh’s Sawyer (2:22.43) placed second in the 800-meter behind Chelsea’ junior Jesse Jacobusse (2:22.21).

Sawyer placed first in the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:11.02 and first in the 3,200-meter in 11:23.39.

Lincoln junior Breann Darkins (15.89) placed first in the 100-meter hurdles while Chelsea sophomore Kaehla Manly (48.89) placed first in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the 4x100 relay, Lincoln placed first in 51.47 (Aylssa Couch, Breann Darkins, Ashley Worford, Serena Varner).

Ypsilanti won the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:48.19 (Felcia Hughes, Cherell Smith, Terria Patterson, LeDeja Thomas).

Adrian placed first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:13.42 (Alicia Medrano, Caila Coyne, Lauren Francoeur, Hannah Bible).

Dexter won the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:07.41 (Julia Bell, Gigi Eisele, Alison McLean, Megyn Scafasci).

The shot put event was won by Chelsea’s Lily Francisco (33’-4.5”) while Lincoln’s Kayla Roy (97’-3”) placed first in the discus event.

Caroline Shoopman (5’) of Dexter placed first in the high jump while Alyssa Enciso (11’) of Dexter won the pole vault.

Lincoln’s Serena Varner (17’-4.5”) placed first in the long jump.
