The wait for the opening of Salsaria’s in downtown Tecumseh ended on Monday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. when the restaurant opened its doors for business. The patio will be open in the summer as well. A staff of approximately 30 employees is serving up Mexican cuisine. Photo by Mary Kay McPartlin.

After an extensive renovation, Salsaria’s opened at its new downtown Tecumseh location, 146 E. Chicago Blvd., on Monday, Dec. 14. Salsaria’s recently closed its Adrian location, which had been open for 23 years, to focus solely on the Tecumseh restaurant.

Contaminated soil in the basement previously halted construction at the site. Clean up was completed in March after Economic Development Director Paula Holtz successfully applied for a Brownfield Redevelopment grant totaling $390,000. Kirk Valentine of Sphere Project Management led the construction.

The restaurant will feature outdoor seating in the summer.

An exposed brick wall that was previously part of the Ivy Gallery and Frame Shop completes the bar. Tacos, enchiladas and tostadas are a few of the items presented on the authentic Mexican cuisine menu.

Salsaria’s acquired a liquor license in 2013 and is currently serving alcohol.
