Roger Lester Proctor

Roger Lester Proctor, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2016 in Tecumseh. Roger was born on July 8, 1948, in Port Huron, Mich., to Lester D. and Lucille (May) Proctor. He grew up in Clinton, Mich., and graduated from Clinton High School in 1966. In 1970, he graduated from Western Michigan University and married his high school sweetheart, Diane Lauer. After teaching middle school science and coaching football in South Lyon, Roger joined his father in the family business, operating Proctor Funeral Homes in Tecumseh and Clinton. In 1983, Roger began a new career as a financial advisor, working for Investor Diversified Services (IDS), American Express Financial Advisors and, for the last 15 years, Hantz Financial Services. Roger was an active member of Kiwanis for many years and served on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Lenawee and Orchard Terrace.

A former athlete and avid sports fan, Roger loved to follow the Tigers and the sports and activities of his children and grandchildren. He also loved to hunt and fish, especially at the family cabin near Atlanta, Mich. Rog and Diane enjoyed an active social life in Tecumseh with their family and close group of friends.

Roger is survived by his wife Diane (Lauer) Proctor, son Jason (Bethany) Proctor of Bay City; daughter Marisa (Bruce Schlieman) Proctor of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren Kellen, Marin, and Grady Proctor, Charlie and Nora Schlieman, and step-grandchildren Emily and Clara Schlieman; sister Jackie Proctor of Clinton, brother Stuart (Cheryl) Proctor of Clayton, brother-in-law Daniel (Kathy) Lauer of Tipton, sister-in-law Jeanne (Lauer) Heft of Madison, Wisconsin, many loved nieces and nephews, and his loyal hunting buddy, Woody.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Roger was held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, Mich., with Pastor Susie Shaefer officiating at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church of Clinton or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
