Richard ‘Dick’ L. Gallaway

Richard ‘Dick’ L. Gallaway, age 89 of Adrian, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, April 4, 2016.

He was born June 16, 1926 in Raisin Township to Lawrence and Lucy (Wilkerson) Gallaway. Richard graduated from Tecumseh High School and attended Michigan State University where he studied agriculture. He proudly served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. On December 10, 1949, he married Gloria Wakefield at Holloway Presbyterian Church. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before her death in 2015.

Richard worked for Lenawee Intermediate School District and Swenk Tuttle. He was a member of the Holloway Presbyterian Church where he served in many areas. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and gardening. In his earlier days, he enjoyed taking care of the family orchard.  Dick will be dearly missed by his family and fondly remembered. 

He is survived by his loving children, Carol England of Cave City, Ky., Neil (Cindy) Gallaway, of Lewiston, Mich., Richard (Cindy) Gallaway of Ann Arbor;  grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Beth Johnson, Cory (Kelsey) Andersen, Tim Gallaway, Sarah (Nate) Tanis, Jennifer Gallaway; great-grandchildren, Destiny Johnson, Noah Tanis, Laird and Corbin Andersen.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gloria, he was preceded in death by his six sisters.

Funeral services for Dick will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, with Lance Wiesmann officiating. Burial will follow at Raisin Township Cemetery, formerly Holloway Presbyterian Cemetery, on Sutton Road. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holloway Presbyterian Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
