Redskins go 3-0 at Dundee softball invitational

CLINTON — Three more victories improved Clinton’s varsity softball team record to 14-1 as the Redskins went 3-0 at Dundee’s Invitational on Saturday, April 30.
 
The Redskins started the day with a 13-0 shutout win over Carlson with Renee Hoffman throwing her second no-hitter of the season. She struck out 14 and walked one.
 
Clinton’s offense was led by seniors Asheligh Donahey and Megan Burton. Donahey went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Burton was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Clinton’s Lindsey Branscum was 3-for-4; Renee Hoffman was 2-for-4 with three RBI; Rilee Szczesniak was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Madelyn Stapnowski was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI and Hayley Turk was 2-for-5 with a triple.
 
In its second game against Lincoln, Clinton won 4-0.
 
Burton pitched the win in six innings of play due to the time limit. She pitched four innings and allowed two hits and one walk while striking out two.
 
Hoffman pitched in relief in the fifth inning and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
 
Caitlyn Schuler hit a solo home run in the fifth inning; Lindsey Branscum went 2-for-3 with a double and Renee Hoffman was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Donahey, Stapnowski, Szczesniak, Turner and Burton each added a hit.
 
The Redskins defeated Flat Rock 7-2 in their final game of the day. This game featured a duel effort on the mound. Hoffman (7-1) pitched three complete innings, giving up just one hit and two walks while striking out five. Burton (7-0) was sent in on relief in the fourth inning to record the win for Clinton. Burton gave up three hits and had five strikeouts. Flat Rock scored two runs in the sixth inning off the three hits Burton allowed.
 
Clinton’s offense was led by Branscum. She went 3-for-3; Donahey 3-for-4 and Hoffman 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
 
Hoffman was the winning pitcher against Summerfield on Wednesday, April 27, throwing her first no hitter of the season with 11 strikeouts in five innings for a 9-0 victory.
 
Clinton was scheduled for a league game at home on Wednesday against Whiteford. Results from the contest will be reported in next week’s Herald.
