Realtor confirms pending sale of former Tecumseh Product’s site

The former Tecumseh Products property may soon become one of the largest airsoft and law enforcement tactical training facilities in the country, according to Patrick Hoffman, Realtor at Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.According to the city manager’s report that will be presented to Tecumseh City Council at the regular Monday, Oct. 6, meeting, the city has been informed that the current owner of the Tecumseh Products property has a signed purchase agreement. Hoffman corroborated that information. The company, based in Detroit, expects 2,000-3,000 people would use the facility monthly once the company is up and running, according to Hoffman. According to Tecumseh City Manager Kevin Welch in his manager’s report, “We are being told that the purchase agreement places a hold on all future demolition activity for at least 180 days. Obviously, this is of major concern to the city since much of the older sections of the building have already been stripped of much of the electrical, fire suppression and other critical components that would allow occupancy.” Welch added that until a plan is presented the city is uncertain of the property’s future.Hoffman said his clients are working with the city. The property was still listed for sale on Friday, Oct. 3. The online listing shows a price of $750,000. “The current demolition contractor is cooperating with the City by pledging to complete the clean-up and site work on parts of the building,” continued Welch’s report. “However, the City is prepared to exercise its rights under the performance bond that we hold for the completion of this work.”A performance bond that is often issued by an insurance company or banks to guarantee satisfactory completion of a project by a contractor. If a contractor fails to complete the work, the client is guaranteed compensation for any monetary loss up to the amount of the performance bond. Airsoft is a sport where participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical, non-metallic, non-lethal pellets fired from replica firearms called airsoft guns. Demolition crews were working on the property Friday morning, Oct. 3.
