Raisin Township Board approves road projects

The Raisin Township Board of Trustees approved road construction projects for 2015 with the Lenawee County Road Commission Monday afternoon. The township will spend $401,818 over several road projects within the township this year. The funds for road construction comes from the general fund — $100,000 — and the special assessment the board approved last September in a 4-3 vote. The special assessment is for five years. The special assessment fund currently has approximately $292,000 with about another $30,000 pending from the county for delinquent tax payments. Green Highway from Gady Road to Roberts Meadow subdivision will receive crack seal only. From Roberts Meadow subdivision to Russell Road, Green Highway will receive sealcoat and asphalt overlay. This section of the project will cost $199,103. The work on Green Highway will occur in phases, where potholes will be filled, and cracks sealcoated before the asphalt overlay is applied. Ives Road, from Occidental Highway to Green Highway will receive crack work repair. Black Highway, from Valley to Sutton Roads; Raisin Center Highway, from Holloway to Kopke Roads; East Valley Road, from Occidental Highway to Wilmoth Road; and Sutton Road, from Occidental Highway to M-52, will receive crack seal and sealcoat repairs. Those road projects total $74,021. The other road in the township receiving sealcoating and asphalt overlay is Sutton Road, from Billmeyer to Ridge Highways. That work totals $74,404. Ives Road, from Occidental to Green Highways will receive crack seal only. The crack seal only projects total $2,290. Gady Road, from the Kiwanis trail to M-52 will have various work done for approximately $54,000 until next year when the road will receive an asphalt overlay once new funds become available through the special assessment. Trustee Tom Hawkins said the Lenawee County Road Commission gave no date on when the work would begin, but said the projects will be completed this year.
