Phyllis Jean Maves

Phyllis Jean Maves, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and dear friend Nancy, on February 23, 2017. She was born to Clarence and Marguerite (Reynolds) Meyers in Blissfield, Mich., on September 14, 1931. She was united in marriage on September 29, 1956 at the Grace Lutheran Church to Donald Maves, the love of her life for 58 years before his death in 2014.

Phyllis was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Tecumseh, being in the choir, Altar Guild, Care Group and Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Tecumseh American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies Extension Club. Phyllis was a long-time University of Michigan fan, loved to travel and winter in Florida. She was a devoted housewife who was giving, loving and always putting others first before her own needs. She created a memorable family life and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Dan (Katie Iott) Maves of Tecumseh, Mich., and Dr. Tom (Susan Ewart) Maves of Lansing, Mich.; brother, Kent Meyers of Oregon, Ohio, sister, Francis Bohs of Blissfield, Mich., sister-in-law, Marilyn Meyers also of Blissfield; grandchildren, Chasity (Kurt) Bush, Emily Maves, Jacob Maves, Grace Maves, Samuel Maves and Benjamin Maves; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Charlie and Adeline Bush, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don, her brother, Bob Meyers and brother-in-law, Bud Bohs.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 with Pastor Philip Krieger officiating at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh American Legion Auxiliary or Hospice of Lenawee.
