Phyllis Jean Lay

Phyllis Jean Lay, age 92, of Tecumseh died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at her home. She was born September 13, 1927 in Tecumseh, the daughter of the late Henry Lewis Kelley and Nina Maude (Scofield) Kelley. On September 14, 1947 in Tecumseh, she married Ogland O. Lay, Jr. and they shared over 59 years together before he passed away on May 24, 2007.

Phyllis graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1945 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. She worked at several offices in the area, retiring from the Tecumseh Products Company in 1987.

Phyllis is survived by her son, David Lay of Oak Ridge, N.J.; two daughters, Mary Beth Lay of Canton, Mich., and Nancy (Duane) Hamilton of Sebastian, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Anthony (Nicole) Lay of Chuluota, Fla., Daniel Lay of Brooklyn, N.Y., Joshua and Ryan Lay of Butler, N.J., Joseph and Samuel Harman of Adrian, Mich., Katherine (Ronald) Harman of Canton, Mich., and Laine and Lauren Hamilton of Sebastian, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Breckin and Finley Preston of Monroe, Mich., Emma and Spencer Lay of Chuluota, Fla. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Morden, brother, Henry Kelley and several half brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 from 5-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Cathi King officiating, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
