Nina Martinus
Nina Martinus, age 69, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away, October 27, 2015, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was born June 29, 1946, in Jackson, Mich., the daughter of Alfred and Fern (Brunt) Strang. On May 28, 1968, she married Dennis Martinus, he survives.
In addition to her husband Dennis, she is survived by her children, Craig (Shannon) Martinus, Rick Martinus and Ryan (Jessica) Martinus; her grandchildren, Wyatt, Eli and Shiann; her sister, Melva (Tom) Birtles; stepbrother, Frank (Flo) Strang, and mother in law, Velma Martinus.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nina grew up in Manchester where she was a basketball player, cheerleader and majorette. She attended Cleary College and worked in Ann Arbor before she married. After the birth of her three children, Nina began a two-decade career at H&R Block in Tecumseh.
In her spare time, she loved to read, play Bingo, solve jigsaw puzzles and paint. Nina enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Wampler’s Lake and found a restful retirement at her winter home in Weslaco, Texas.
A voracious learner and a caring person to the end, Nina fought liver failure with a courageously positive attitude. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and in the thoughts of loved ones near and far.
