Nancy L. Getz

Nancy L. Getz, age 89, of Tecumseh, Mich., went home to Jesus on January 6, 2016 at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich. She was born in 1926 to Reinhold and Lydia Jaeck in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Libby High School in Toledo, Ohio, Class of 1944. Nancy was a salaried retiree from the Tecumseh Products, International Division. She also worked for Meyers Aircraft and the Tecumseh Public Schools.

Nancy was a long-standing member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the alter guild and as Sunday school teacher. Her true passion was playing the piano and singing worship songs to her Lord.

Nancy married Melvin L. Getz from Perrysburg, Ohio and together they raised four children. They also entertained several friends and relatives at their cottage in the Irish Hills. Their passion of travel led them to Florida, where they spent another 10 years of retirement bliss. She had a fondness for animals, especially her dog Rosie, who was always by her side.

Nancy is survived by her children; Linda (Charles) Thomas of Okemos, Mich., Lawrence (Carolyn) Getz of Fowlerville, Mich., Jennifer (Scott) Fick of Tecumseh, Mich., and John (Monica) Getz of Ypsilanti, Mich., eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister Donna (Leo) Poenicke of Toledo, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, Melvin.

Visitation for Nancy will be held on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
