Marvin Fitzgerald Owen

Marvin Fitzgerald Owen, age 88, of Grosse Pointe Woods, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away on April 10, 2017 at The Rivers of Grosse Pointe. He was born to the late Edward and Evelyn (Hayden) Owen on March 20, 1929 in Dearborn, Mich. Loving husband of Donna for 61 years before her death in 2013.

Marvin retired from the Ford Motor Company as a Material Handling Engineer after 30 plus years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tecumseh for 19 years, where he was on the finance board and was active in the choir. He was a former member of the Tecumseh Kiwanis Club. He received his private pilot license and enjoyed flying. He was a loving, hardworking man, who will be missed by his family and friends.

Marvin is survived by his children, Terrie (Chuck) Galay of Hampton, Va., Paula (Joseph) Butala of Grosse Pointe Farms and Douglas Owen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Dana and Kelly, Steven and David, Alfred, Raechel, Paige and Madison; six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Geraldine Weston of Ormand Beach, Fla., Madeline West of Houston, Texas and Patricia (Daniel) Sawyer of Ft. Myers, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna, a daughter, Linda Evans and his brothers, Frederick Page, Wesley and Roger Owen.

Visitation will be held for Marvin on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 2-7 p.m. Funeral service will be on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating followed by military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post No. 34 and VFW Post No. 4187. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A private burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marvin’s honor to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the National Parkinson’s Association.
