Kathleen Alice McDermott

Kathleen Alice McDermott, age 76 years of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 26, 2018, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor surrounded by family. She was born on October 8, 1941, in Detroit, the daughter of Norman J. and Catherine (White) Lothamer. Kathy went to school in Detroit and graduated from Marygrove College. She married Larry L. McDermott on June 26, 1965, in Detroit. He survives. 

Kathy loved the outdoors. The family grew up traveling, camping in Michigan, along the East Coast of the U.S. and in Canada. Before moving to Hudson the family lived on a small farm. Kathy enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, the moon and stars, birds, small animals, flowers and the passing of the seasons. She loved to sing and sang in church as a song leader and a choir member. Kathy was involved in church activities at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Detroit, St. Kevin Parish in Inkster, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh and St. Alphonsus Church in Deerfield where she was also a member of the prayer group. She was a member of the American Legion Post 155 Auxilliary, Boy Scout Troop 632 Committee and Venture Crew 632 Committee.

Surviving Kathy besides her husband, Larry, are: her two sons, Brian McDermott and Daniel (Kristy) McDermott all of Hudson; five grandchildren, Willow, Patrick, Victoria, Katelyn and Virginia; one sister, Marie D’Angelo of Cheboygan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sons in infancy, parents, stepmother, Irene Lothamer, brother, Norman Lothmer and sister, Rita Metcalf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Joe Krupp officiating.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson.  Memorials are suggested to the family.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
