Julie Anne Rhora

Julie Anne Rhora, 82, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went to her heavenly home on May 5, 2020.

Following a brief illness, Julie passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold Rhora; sons Brad Rhora of Saginaw, Mich., and Kent Rhora (Beth) of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Rhonda Nowak (Joe) of Tecumseh, Mich.; and grandchildren, Sarah Nowak of Adrian, Mich. and Andrew Nowak (Brenna) of Temperance, Mich.

Julie, was a long-time resident of Tecumseh. Her enthusiasm for its people and businesses was evident to anyone who would listen. She began her career as a nurse at the office of Dr. Carlton Cook and stayed there for 20 years until she opened her first business, along with her husband, in 1980.

Great Ideas, an interior design center and gift shop, was fueled by Julie’s love for beautiful things and a prolific creativity. Her design work can be seen in many residential and commercial projects both here, in southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio, as well as abroad. Along with her daughter Rhonda, she created an enduring downtown business for over 40 years.

Julie was on numerous boards and committees during those 40 years promoting business and tourism for Tecumseh, including Tecumseh DDA, Appleumpkin Festival co-founder and co-founder of Promenade Tecumseh. But, she may be best known by patrons of the Croswell, as the founder and lead cheerleader, of the Sarah Nowak fan club.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the American Cancer Society.

A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
