John Virgil Deming

John Virgil Deming, age 82, of Raisin Township, died on September 19, 2016. He was born December 5, 1934 in Wyandotte, Mich., to Virgil C. Deming and Lura H. (Norcross) Deming. On March 22, 2003 he married Ruth Schmidt and she survives.

John served his country in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army Signal Corp. He was educated at Tecumseh High School, University of Maryland and Cleary College. He was a retired Quality Control Engineer. He was a member of the Tipton Community Church, Tecumseh Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion, joining Post No. 1 in Paris, France. John was a Boy Scout leader for 50 years, a Sunday school teacher, past member of the Tecumseh Parks and Recreation committee, a youth mentor and a member of the Tecumseh Kiwanis. He was a supporter of the arts and enjoyed history and genealogy.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his sons, Larry (Dorothy) Harper of Tecumseh, Mark V. (Mary) Deming of Seabrook Texas, and John Erik (Nia) Deming of Britton; four granddaughters, Megan (Mark) Saczynski, Monica (Danny) Mattox, Makenzie Deming and Paige Deming; three grandsons, T.J. Garrett, Makis Deming and Alex Deming; and three great grandchildren, Isabelle Saczynski, Fox Mattox and Leo Mattox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 44 years, Patricia (O’Brien) Deming; his sons, Derik A. Deming and Timothy K. Deming and also his sister, Margaret J. Martin.

Memorial service for John will be held on October 22, 2016 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating at 11 am. Inurnment will follow with full military honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post No. 34 and the Tecumseh VFW Post No. 4187 at Franklin Cemetery, Tipton, Mich.

In lieu of flowers (he did not like them), memorial donations may be made to the Tecumseh Boy Scouts of America Troop 632 in care of Gerry Green, 2817 Coachlite Dr., Tecumseh, Mich., 49286.
