Jean Lois Hollis Hughes

Jean Lois Hollis Hughes of Beaverton, Ala., formerly of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away February 16, 2018 at the Lenawee Medical Care Center in Adrian, Mich., with family by her side. 

 

Jean was born in Detroit, Mich., on October 13, 1930, an identical twin and the daughter of the late Garvin H. and Edna Charlene Hamner Hollis. She lived in Michigan until the age of 8 when she moved to Alabama. 

 

She married Calvin C. Hughes on August 30, 1946 in Gattman, Miss.  They moved to Michigan soon after they married. Jean worked at Peerless Gear in Clinton, Mich., from 1967 until her retirement in 1992. Jean and Calvin then moved back to Alabama for their retirement years.

 

Jean loved spending time with her family and close friends. Her four boys and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. Jean and her twin sister, Joan, had a unique twin bond that always kept them connected no matter the distance between them. 

 

Jean is survived by four sons, Don (Becky) of Port Orange, Fla., Lyle of Youngstown, Fla., Bruce (Ellen) of Tecumseh, Mich., and Lyndon (Lori) of Dundee, Mich.; two  brothers, Garvin (Pam) Hollis, better known as Sonny of Guin, Ala., and Kenneth (Brenda) Hollis of Beaverton, Ala.; one sister Nancy (Vance) Busby of Guin, Ala..; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Hughes, Chad (Kristin) Blaker, Charity (Jeff) Wright, Duke (Laura) Hughes, Brook VanBrocklin, Holly Hughes, Cole Hughes, Chelsea (Josh) Ely, Todd Hughes, Nicole Hughes and Andrew Hughes; 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, sisters Joan Cole and Louise Baumea, and brother Karl Hollis.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Ala.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Mt. Hebron Church in Beaverton, with burial to follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
