Indians tussle with Western

After leading 2-1 at the end of the first half of its varsity boys soccer match against Parma Western, Wednesday, Sept. 3, Tecumseh’ lost the contest 3-2.“The start of the second half, we had three excellent scoring chances in a five minute span, two that just missed wide by a few inches each and the other was saved by a diving western goal keeper that just got his finger tips on the ball,” said Tecumseh coach Jerry Nowak. “We had other scoring chances but again, couldn't convert. Both teams played hard and physical and was pretty exciting.”Tecumseh’s goals came from Ollie Autry and Jarrett Oldeck with assists by Owen Swan and Josh Nowak.“Tecumseh’s back line gets a lot of credit for slowing down the Western attack,” said coach Nowak. “They played a very solid game.”The day before, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at home, the Indians beat Lincoln 4-0.Coach Nowak attributed the win to solid defensive play and brilliant possession from his midfielders. “Defensive mids Gabe Giovannone and Noah Schoenberger were excellent in getting the attack started from the back by finding our attacking mid, Owen Swan, and Target Forward, Josh Nowak,” coach Nowak said. “Nowak played many perfectly weighted balls through the Lincoln defense and it was only a matter of time until the first goal was scored.” Tecumseh’s Nick Wyatt opened scoring and was followed with a netter from Chase Hatfield to close the fist half up 2-0.In the second half, Giovannone struck the back of the net twice. His second goal was shot from outside the 18-yard box that just got into the upper right corner of the goal.Assists were recorded by Josh Nowak (2), Noah Schoenberger and Josh McKenzie.Tecumseh’s junior varsity team won 4-1 with goals from Brad Arras (2), Mike Boegel and Bradley Spakes.
