Holiday Ball returns with memorial tribute

For years the Herrick Hospital Auxiliary hosted the Holiday Ball at Tecumseh Country Club on the first Saturday in December. It was a way to usher in the holidays with dining and dancing, while raising money for the auxiliary to help purchase high-ticket items like monitors and mammography machines. As the membership of the auxiliary aged they were unable to organize the annual event, so it disappeared – until this year.

“The Holiday Ball Returns,” reads the ticket for the resurrected event. “Please join us for an evening of food, friends and dancing to kick off the holiday season.” This year, unlike in past years, the event is held in memory of someone – Dr. Catherine Cook, who was an anesthesiologist for many years at Herrick. She walked in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Carlton Cook, who retired as a general practitioner. Proceeds from the event will be used to honor Dr. Catherine Cook in the lobby of the new hospital.

The event is sponsored by friends of Dr. Catherine Cook and ProMedica Herrick Hospital. “It was very sweet of them to think of Cathy,” said her sister, April Gunder. “She worked for ProMedica most of her career. She was a loving and compassionate physician and person. We love and miss her every day.”

The holiday ball will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at The Ashlar, 700 Bishop Reed Dr., Tecumseh. As in the past, party-goers will be dressed in holiday festive attire. Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased online at giving.promedica.org/holidayball. Deadline for tickets is Monday, Nov. 26. For more information, call Katie Frye Young at 517.265.0171.
