Henry H. Newlin

Henry H. Newlin, 78, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away September 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Nancy Newlin, his brother Ned, nieces and nephews. Henry left many friends who will miss his lively personality and keen sense of humor.Henry was born July 17, 1936 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Henry and Ruby Newlin. His family moved numerous times following his father’s career finally settling in Blissfield. He graduated from Blissfield H.S. and then the University of Michigan where he remained an active supporter of both the athletic and academic programs. He served in the U.S. Army after graduation, taught school in upstate New York, became a college administrator and then attended law school at the University of Buffalo.After graduation he and Nancy moved to Tecumseh, Mich., where he began the practice of law and she practiced radiology for many years. In addition to his practice, Henry enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of United Bank and Trust, participating in numerous plays at the Croswell and following the basketball program at U-of-M, both men’s and women’s. The Newlins’ support led to the creation of the first endowed scholarship for a woman’s varsity basketball player.In 1993, Governor John Engler named Henry Probate Judge for the County of Lenawee where he served with distinction.The Newlins retired to Fountain Hills, Ariz., in 2002 where Henry began giving desert tours and developed a love and appreciation of the southwest. In 2013, he began spending summers in Boise, Idaho where he and Nancy met a new set of friends and enjoyed biking and socializing.
