Helen Jane Schmidt

Helen Jane Schmidt, age 89, of Tecumseh, passed away July 11, 2016.

Helen was born June 15, 1927 in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of Leonard and Marian (Hoag) Kempf.

On July 12, 1947 she married Theodore “Ted” Schmidt at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on the Ridge, Britton, and he preceded her in death January 25, 2012.

She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Britton, where she enjoyed volunteering at the quilting club, funeral dinners and enjoyed eating good food and socializing at the “Lunch A Bunch” get-togethers. Selling poppies for the Veterans over the years was something she also liked to do.  Helen was a lovely, sweet, loving and generous woman who will be missed by all.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Charles) Williams; son, Gary (Catherine) Schmidt, both of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Jerry Williams and Megan (Ted) Schmidt-Pregitzer; great-grandchildren, Jasper, Kendra and Kaylie Williams; sisters, Ilene Schmidt, Joann Gritzmaker and Margretta Hooper and many loving family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Lucas Schmidt, three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Dave McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the funeral home.
