Heidi Neil

Heidi Neil, born on July 1, 1974 in Ypsilanti, Mich., lost her 14-month battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer) at 5:20 a.m. December 22, 2017.

Until her journey’s end she was surrounded by her family. Heidi’s passion for reading and books led her to a master’s degree in library science from Wayne State University. She worked as a librarian at the Adrian Public Library and absolutely loved working with her colleagues and many patrons. Prior to that she worked for the Monroe County Library System where she became an expert in genealogy. Her favorite place was the family cottage in Grand Marias, Michigan.

Heidi was creative, fun and passionate about the things she believed in and touched many lives in, so many positive ways. She was always there to listen, support and encourage those around her.

Heidi leaves behind the loves of her life, her two sons, Augustus and Elijah. She is survived by her parents, Suzanne and Warren Matthews, her siblings, Lian Lloyd, Kevin (Karen) Matthews and Gregory Matthews (life partner Mattie Doss). Heidi is also survived by nephews Alexander Lloyd, Christian Matthews, Maxwell Trewin, nieces Lydia Lloyd, Nicole (Tim) Stachelski, Alaina Matthews, and grandnieces Ella Stachelski and Claire Stachelski.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, Mich., 48108.

Burial followed at Washtenong Memorial Park. Donations may be made in honor of Heidi to the Augustus Neil and Elijah Neil Scholarship Fund. They may be mailed in care of: Warren Matthews, 39 S. Wallace, Ypsilanti, Mich., 48197.
