Hazel E. Kayner

Hazel E. Kayner, age 93, of Tecumseh, died peacefully on January 26, 2017 at Cambrian Assisted Living under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born on June 18, 1923 in Adrian, Mich., to the late Walter and Louise (Iffland) Engel. She was united in marriage on Nov. 26, 1944 to Leland “Lee” Kayner, and they shared 69 years together before his death in 2013.

Hazel was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. She worked for over 25 years as a bank teller for United Bank & Trust and sold Avon for nine years. She was an avid Tigers fan, enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles, and loved to bowl. Hazel and Lee built their family cottage on Silver Lake and enjoyed vacationing there for 48 years. She also enjoyed her dog, Polly and her cats.

Hazel is survived by her daughter in law, Debby Kayner; her niece, Cinda (Duane) Brooks and nephew Dan (Linda) Murphy, all of Tecumseh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Douglas and Dennis, and her sister Dorothy Murphy.

Funeral service for Hazel was on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Burial was at Brookside Cemetery.
