Film fans will gather at Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. to watch the creations of up-and-coming filmmakers at the Cabin Fever Film Festival. Nine independent short films have been selected for the third annual festival.

“There’s always something for everybody to enjoy in the variety of the films,” said organizer Joanna Gall.

The TCA received submissions from all over southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio, including films submitted by students at Tecumseh High School. Genres of the selected films include comedy, suspense, science fiction and drama.

In addition to the submissions from Tecumseh filmmakers, a Detroit production company also submitted an entry, as did students from Spring Arbor University.

“It was nice to see them return,” Gall said of the Spring Arbor students.

Viewers may notice familiar places in some of the films shown on February 6. Local locations, including Stagecoach Stop in the Irish Hills, are featured.

Audience members will have a chance to participate after the films are shown. One film will receive the audience favorite award, voted by all those in attendance.

Prizes will be awarded to some of the films. A question and answer portion between the audience and the filmmakers will again be part of the evening.

“Last year people had some great questions,” said Gall.

The films are not rated for the content and are recommended for those age 13 and older. According to Gall, run time for all nine films will be between an hour and a half and an hour and 45 minutes. A special addition to this year’s festival is one of the filmmakers from the first ever Cabin Fever Film Festival serving as an emcee for this year’s contest.

Fans of the film festival will find year three of the event has everything that makes the evening special. “People enjoy the variety of the movies,” Gall said. “Seeing familiar faces on the big screen is always fun.”

The concession stand will be open for sales of popcorn, beer and wine during the event.

Tickets for the Cabin Fever Film Fest are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online.
