A new women’s clothing and accessory store arrived in downtown Tecumseh at the end of May, when The Eve and Annie Boutique opened its doors in the space previously occupied by Radio Shack at 102 W. Chicago Blvd., Suite 102.

The shop’s owner, Dundee resident Jenny Ryle, had been selling through pop-up events and online sales for the past year, and set her sights on opening a brick-and-mortar store after having success with her business. “I’ve always wanted my own store, so I was very excited to open the store in Tecumseh,” she said.

Ryle said she has been involved in the fashion industry for about 15 years and when she was ready to finally realize her dream to open a store, she felt inspired to honor the influence of two women in her life. The Eve and Annie in the store’s name are the names of her paternal and maternal grandmothers. “They were these two stylish women. They loved to entertain and we always went down to the beach, we always had amazing holidays,” she said. “So basically the store is a bit of an ode to them.”

She acquires her store’s clothing from various design houses from around the country, much of it from Los Angeles. For accessories she focuses on handmade and handcrafted items. “For example, I’ve got earrings that I get from Texas that are three-and-a-half to four inches long,” she said. “I just want to bring something different to the market at the moment.”

According to theeveandannieboutique.com, the boutique is a blend of Australian and Michigan culture, celebrating the love of lake life, beaches and entertaining. Ryle, who grew up in Australia, has over 10 years in fashion forecasting, merchandising and marketing for top fashion buying offices.

Her family, including her husband Michael and two young children, are very supportive of her new venture. “The timing was right for me to open a storefront, and they’ve been amazing and very supportive of that. They’re very happy that their mum’s got her own store. My son said he was quite proud of me, so that was nice,” said Ryle.

She said the community has welcomed her. “It’s been wonderful. Everyone’s been really amazing. It’s been really nice getting to know everyone, whether they’re from Tecumseh or they’re coming in for a day trip. They’ve responded really well and we’re really excited by it,” Ryle said. She has received much support from the Tecumseh business community, as well.

And as for having her store open? “I’m loving it. I can’t wait to go into the store every day. I love getting all the new products in – I get new products in weekly so there’s something fresh there for people to come and look at. I’ve always loved talking to people and basically helping them find the right style and making them feel really good about themselves as well, whether it be just a new top they feel great in or a dress for an event or graduation or something like that,” Ryle said. “I love to make people happy.”

The Eve and Annie Boutique is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, visit the store’s Facebook page or call 517.438.4290.
