Edward “Ned” Brown

Edward “Ned” Brown, age 97, of Britton, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2015, at Hospice of Lenawee in Adrian. He was born on January 4, 1918, to Charles F. and Viva C. (Bachman) Brown, in Britton, Mich. On February 19, 1939, he married his high school sweetheart, Vivian V. Agner, and they shared 50 loving years together before she passed away on May 4, 1989.Ned graduated from Britton-Macon High School in 1935, where he played football, baseball and basketball. After graduation he went to work for Henry Ford at the Ford Farm in Macon, Mich. In April of 1943, he left for the Army Infantry in the Middle East where he was in battle in Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines and Po Valley. His rank was Sargent and he returned home in 1945. Ned was a lifelong resident of Britton and was very involved in the community. He coached Little League and Pony League and was on the Village Council. He served two four-year terms on the Britton-Macon School Board and helped mentor children in reading. He was a member of the Britton American Legion Post No. 155 and was a life member of the Britton Congregational Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and trustee along with building Sunday school rooms and remodeling the kitchen. He built the house his family lived in and many other homes in the area. He gave many friends and family members his wooden turn-tables and other wood projects. Ned was the kindest, sweetest, would do anything for anybody and he is going to be missed by many. Ned is survived by his children, Nancy (Howard) Wilson of Adrian, and Roger (Sue) Brown of Tecumseh; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Bertha Brown of Adrian; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Vivian, sisters, Frances and Josephine, and brothers, Raynor “Doc,” Henry and Carl.Visitation for Ned was held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service was held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Ridgeway Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of the Britton American Legion Post No. 155. Memorial Contributions in honor of Ned may be made to the Britton Congregational Christian Church or Hospice of Lenawee. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfunderalhomes.com.
