Duane ‘Dewey’ Francisco

Duane “Dewey” Francisco, age 79, of Cambridge Township, Mich., passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at his Wamplers Lake home. Dewey was born February 18, 1938, the son of the late Deuard LeRoy and Viola (Gilbert) Francisco.  On April 29, 1967 in Brooklyn, Mich., he married Charlotte Lucas. She preceded him in death on August 30, 1990.

Dewey was a resident of Tecumseh since 1965 coming from the Irish Hills and was a barber at Gregory’s Barber Shop for more than 27 years. He was well-known throughout the community. Dewey enjoyed playing horse shoes, fishing, “deer hunting” with lifelong friends, bowling, trips to the Casino, and was a proficient player of cards, namely poker, blackjack, rummy, euchre and cribbage.  After retiring, Dewey enjoyed living at Wamplers Lake and cruising the lake on his pontoon boat. He was a lifetime member of the Tecumseh Club, a past member of the Irish Hills Fire Department and the Loyal Order of Moose in Adrian.

Dewey is survived by his children, David (Kathy) Francisco, USMC retired of Oceanside, Calif.; Dana (Chris) Hosman of Hampton, Va.; John Michael Francisco of Brooklyn; Kip Lane of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Matthew (Laurie) Francisco of Sylvania, Ohio;  sisters, Mary Lavender of Tecumseh, Charlene Ecker of Tipton and Joan Cooch of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Rebekah Hosman, Angela (Dustin) Turlington, Heather Hosman, Ashley (Scott) Salvage, Shannon (Justin) Miller, Amy (Jeff) Bonner, John Michael Francisco II, Hayley Francisco, Benjamin (Ashley) Hosman, Amelia Francisco, Ryan Brown, Sonja Francisco, and Logan Brown; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Nicholas Salvage, Dillan, Haley, Levi, and Ava Turlington, Reagan Bonner, Ira and Nash Hosman, and Camden Miller.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Alyse Francisco.

We invite you to celebrate Dewey’s life. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at J. Gillbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh, Mich., with Pastor Cathi King officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh. 

The family invites you to join them for a reception at the American Legion Underwood Orr Post 34, 101 W. Pottawatamie St., Tecumseh, Mich., from 1-5 p.m.
