CLINTON — The Lenawee County All-Star wrestling meet was held Friday night, Jan. 29 at Adrian College and both Tecumseh and Clinton had athletes featured.

Coaches select the top four wrestlers at each weight division to compete for a county title. Clinton had seven wrestlers compete, Noah Comar (112), Evan Shovels (119), Nick LaCoss (135), Nick Rolland (152), Verneri Korkee (171), Trent Sexton (189), and Ethan Vaughn (Hwt.). Five advanced to the championship match but Rolland was the Redskins’ only county champion. Rolland won a 3-0 decision over Kyle Lakatos from Sand Creek in the championship bout.

Clinton’s Ethan Vaughn lost in overtime to Isaiah Espinoza from Adrian, who is currently ranked No. 2 in Division 2 and last year’s state runner-up.

Comar suffered his first loss of the year in a close contest with Jordan Hamdan from Hudson to finish second while Sexton placed second after losing to Hunter Krueger of Adrian. Korkee lost to Tyler Grames of Hudson in his title match.

Clinton’s two wrestlers who did not compete in the championship match, Shovels and LaCoss, both finished third.

“All seven battled all night long and made us proud of their effort,” said Clinton coach Jeff Rolland.

Tecumseh had two champions, Drew Marten (125) and Landon Pelham (215). Results from the event were not submitted by the Indians.

Clinton was scheduled to compete next at home on Wednesday for a quad meet before traveling to Madison on Saturday for its final regular season meet.
