Clinton sweeps Bulldogs in TCC doubleheader

CLINTON — On Wednesday, April 27, Clinton’s varsity baseball team traveled to Summerfield and swept the Bulldogs with wins of 8-4 and 9-6 in Tri-County Conference (TCC) contests.
 
Kyle Staelgraeve earned the win in game one. He allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking three and striking out seven.
 
Clinton’s offense was led by Jason Ahrens with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate that included a RBI and three runs. Staelgraeve was 2-for-3 for Clinton with three RBI while Daniel Tomalak and Alex McIntosh each had two hits. Zane Woerner, Riley Jacobs, Brandon Studnicka and Ian Pizzo each added one hit.
 
In the second game Tomalak earned the win on the hill, going all seven innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits. He walked three and struck out 12.
 
Tomalak also led the Redskins at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Studnicka and Jesse Fisher each had two hits for Clinton while McIntosh had two hits including a double. Ahrens and Staelgraeve each had a hit with two RBI while Ryan Hoffman recorded a hit. Fisher and Hoffman each scored three times. 
 
Clinton improved to 11-3-1 overall and 6-2 in the TCC with the victories.
 
Clinton attended Adrian’s tournament on Saturday and recorded two losses.
 
In the Redskins’ first game they lost 12-6 to Adrian. Woerner was handed the loss on the hill, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs, five earned, on four hits while walking four and striking out two.
 
Studnicka finished the sixth inning in relief, allowing five runs, none earned, on two hits while walking one.
 
The Redskins were led at the plate by Hoffman who went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Staelgraeve went 2-for-3 at the plate for Clinton with a double and one run while Alex McIntosh was 1-for-4 with a two RBI double and one run. Michael Sprau went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and two RBI while Fisher added a hit and one run. 
 
In the second game against Stevensville Lakeshore, Clinton lost 9-8. 
 
Ryan Hoffman pitched the first five innings for Clinton. He allowed six earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out one.
 
Ahrens pitched the last 1-1/3 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks. Ahrens also led Clinton at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and one run. 
 
McIntosh, Woerner and Fisher had two hits each for Clinton. Alex and Ben Hubbard each had doubles; Staegraeve had a triple and Riley Jacobs had one hit.
 
The Redskins were scheduled to host Addison for a game on Monday but it was cancelled due to unplayable fields.
