Clinton boys second, girls fourth at track and field regionals

CLINTON — Clinton’s varsity boys track and field team placed second (134.50) in the MHSAA Division 3 regionals at Erie Mason on Friday, May 20, and qualified for the Division 3 state meet while the girls team (83) finished fourth.
Dundee (143.50) placed first in the boys and girls (105) divisions.
The Redskins had nine first place finishes and qualified seven athletes for the state finals, to be held June 4, at Comstock Park High School in Grand Rapids. 
Kenny DeShano (45’-1”) placed first in the shot put while Riley Mclaughlin (44’-6”) finished second.
Noah Poore won the long jump (20’-3.5”) while Joe Spence won the discus (116’-1”).
Lucas Crumb was the regional champion in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.84) while Mathew Sexton won the 100-meter (11.0). 
The 800-meter relay team of Huntter Trubiano, DeShano, Poore and Sexton were regional champions (132.1) as was Clinton’s 400-meter relay team (44.1) consisting of the same four athletes. 
Trubiano will compete at state in the 300-meter hurdles (41.8) after a first place finish. 
Sexton earned the right to run at state in the 200-meter with a winning time of 22.8.
Noah Comar (10’) placed third in the pole vault.
Gene Dudek finished fourth in the 800-meter (2:07). Liam Tapp recorded a discus throw of 112’-10” to place fourth.
Clinton’s 3,200-meter relay team of Zachary Matthews, Noah Smith, Christian Minard and Dudek placed fourth (8:57). 
Clinton’s girls had three athletes qualify for the state meet. Amanda Schaare placed first for the Redskins in the discus event with a throw of 127’-1” and also qualified for the state meet in the shot put with a second place throw of 36’. 
Arielle Hitch placed first in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.44 to earn a trip to the state meet and add her name to the record board. Her time beat the old record of 16.8, which was held by Lisa Jansen.
Abigail Elwart placed second to qualify for state in the pole vault (8’).
The Redskins were scheduled to compete on Wednesday, May 25, in Summerfield in the Tri-County Conference meet.
