Clinton boys lose 5-1 to Cougars, tie Maples 3-3
Clinton’s varsity boys soccer team lost 5-1 at Lenawee Christian School (LCS) on Monday, Sept. 8.The Cougars scored just three minutes into the game but Clinton came back with a goal from Huntter Trubiano with an assist from Jose Arca 11 minutes later. LCS scored three more times after Clinton’s goal for a 4-1 lead by the end of the first half. In the second half, The Cougars scored one more goal and set the final score at 5-1. “Jesse Fisher played an amazing game at goal and the defense held their own,” said first year Clinton varsity coach Marla Erickson.Clinton is scheduled to play next on Thursday against Arbor Preparatory High School.The first half of Clinton’s varsity soccer game against visiting Onsted on Thursday, Sept. 4, featured all of the scoring for the evening. The Wildcats finished the half with a 4-1 lead.The score had been set at 4-1 when the game was postponed due to lightning with 3:23 remaining in the first half. “The second half, after the lightening break, my boys came to play,” Erickson said. “They did much better the second half. I have some amazing players on this team and we just need to remember to play our game and to communicate.”Clinton (3-3 overall) took 16 shots on goal in the match. Fisher was in goal for Clinton and recorded 11 saves. On Saturday, Sept. 6, Clinton traveled to Adrian and finished with a 3-3 tie.Adrian scored a pair of goals in the first half for a 2-0 lead.In the second half, Clinton’s Trubiano scored a goal at the 35:05 mark with an assist from Tolen Nelson. Trubiano scored another goal to tie the match with 31:20 left on the clock and Nelson added another just over six minutes later to give Clinton a 3-2 lead.Adrian tied the match and neither team scored again before the final buzzer.Clinton’s Trubiano had six shots on goal; Erik Bouse five shots on goal and Nelson had four shots on goal. Fisher had 10 saves in goal. “Hunter Newman played a great game of defense,” Erickson said.
