Class of 2020 celebration was ‘best night ever’ for students

To the Editor,

I must take the time to thank the parents, the High School National Honor Society, Mrs. Tommelein, our flexible 8th grade teachers and all of the 8th grade students who made the Class of 2020 celebration the best night ever! On June 8 more than 150 students gathered at the AJ Smith Rec Center to celebrate the end of our middle school years.  The Luau was a hit!  The night included: dancing, limbo contests, putt putt golf, badminton, ping pong, Spike Ball, a photo booth and amazing concessions.

Parents donated prizes for raffles, cookies, cupcakes, breadsticks, Gatorade, snow cones, cotton candy, meatballs and lots more. National Honor Society students helped parents decorate and transform the center into a Hawaiian island. More than 40 parents worked together to set up, work during, chaperone and clean up afterwards. Students won great prizes that parents donated, made memories with friends and laughed a lot!

Together, this class raised almost $1,100 to start off our high school years. This is also thanks in part to the generosity of Jeff and Shannon Clark offering their photo booth services at a discount, DJ Karen making great music affordable and the Rec Center’s Heather Raymanowiz’s flexibility.

As the president of the Class of 2020, I am so proud of the hard work, the teamwork, the amazing support from the school and parents, and the great time had by all to celebrate the end of our middle school years. Thank you again for a successful and fun night.
