Bertha Harris Simonds
Bertha Harris Simonds, 95, of Tecumseh, passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at home with her family at her side. She was born June 13, 1920, in Mechanicville, N.Y., the daughter of Clarence and Cora (Rice) Traver Sr. She married Walter O. Simonds on May 13, 1939, in Denton, Mich., and they shared 66 years together before his death in 2006.
Bertha was a member of the Lenawee County Farm Bureau for many years. She enjoyed her crossword puzzles, sewing and gardening.
Bertha is survived by her children, Thomas W. Simonds, Bernice Cousino and Sharon Simonds; five grandchildren, Mark Cousino, Lori (Lee) Sharrar, Michael (Margaret) Simonds, Michell Simonds and Elana Simonds; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, which two were very dear to her, niece, Judy Morgan and nephew, Ronald Bishop.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; brothers, Arthur, Pershing and Clarence Jr.; and a sister, Emma.
Funeral Service for Bertha will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
