BD coach Hosman brings changes

Change is something head Britton Deerfield varsity coach Marcus Hosman has brought with him for his first year with the Patriots.Hosman joins the Patriots after having been the assistant coach at Bellville for the previous 10 years, and before that he was an assistant football coach for four years at Chelsea High School.“I’ve lived in Milan for a long time and I’m looking forward to coaching at a small school, kind of back to where I was. Chelsea was more my speed so to speak. Bellville is a little bit of a different animal in terms of the size of the school and the league we play in. So, I’m really enjoying the small-town atmosphere here in Britton.”The new BD coach said that he has changed the way the Patriots’ offense will run.“We certainly are changing quite a bit on offense. We running a lot different stuff I think than the kids have been used to,” Hosman said. “We’re going to run more of the wing-T and I stuff, more of a traditional offense, if you will, with more ball control. And some more power game too, we’ll see how we do with that.”He said it’s a learning process right now and participation is low but there will be a junior varsity team. “It’s going to be a thin bench for sure but we’re really committed to having a JV and varsity team... I think it’s important for the program.” Kolyne Suydam and Alec Dusseau will be key running backs that junior quarterback Dan Marote will go to for yardage, according to Hosman. Suydam and Marote will also be defensive leaders as linebackers. Tanner Handy and Aaron Folau are also expected to be solid defensive linemen.Last season BD was 2-7 overall and 0-7 in the Tri-County Conference.
