Arthur Raymond Baaske

Arthur Raymond Baaske, age 95, of Tecumseh passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at Cambrian Assisted Living. He was born February 9, 1922 in Adrian to the late Otto Raymond and Ella (Dinse) Baaske. On May 31, 1947 he married Marilyn Jean Meyer and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2009.

Arthur graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1940 where he was an athlete and was active in baseball, basketball and football. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Marines during WWII and the Korean War. He flew C-46 and C-47 supply planes during both and throughout all the South Pacific Islands. Arthur was a member of the Tecumseh American Legion. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. Arthur retired from Tecumseh Products Company after 38 years in 1984. For over 30 years he was the secretary of the Tecumseh Products Bowling League. In his younger days he was a fabulous dancer and won many competitions around the area by dancing the Jitterbug. He enjoyed golfing and was in leagues at Macon and Raisin Valley Golf Courses. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Arthur is survived by his children, Linda (Chuck) Iott of Deerfield, Bruce (Denise) Baaske of Tecumseh  and Susan (John) Gibson of Tecumseh; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Madeline) Iott of Petersburg, Jim Baaske of Ypsilanti, Jennifer (Emanuel) Trifan of Birmingham, Mich., Shane (Jenae) Gibson of Holland, Ohio, Sarah (Peter) Love of Tecumseh, Justin Gibson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Marisa Gibson of Tecumseh and Alyssa (Tyler) Little of The Woodlands, Texas;  and three great-grandchildren, Brielle Gibson, Ransom Gibson and Rory Little

 In additions to his parents and wife, Marilyn Baaske, he was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Baaske and a sister, Marilyn Baaske.

Funeral services for Arthur will be on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh with Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post No. 34 and VFW Post No. 4187.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Hospice of Lenawee.
