1975 Britton exchange student located

Werner Jahn was an exchange student for his senior year at Britton (Macon). His home was Leverkuesen, Germany. He, together with Miguel Verdusco George, out of Tampico, Mexico, lived that year with Dave and Ada Stiles, on the Ridge. I, Dave, four weeks ago, learned how to send email, playin’ around with my new toy. I’m 88 now, retired seven months ago and became an apprentice retiree.

I sent an email to Werner. He responded. We’ve had no contact for 40 years. Now we are email pen pals.

Werner tells me now that he had his epiphany to have a good life, while here in Britton.

His prior grades at home, he reports, were mediocre. He made the Britton football team and many friends here. Back home, he knuckled down and got his grades way up, then became a veterinarian. A horse doc, in his words. He bought property north of Hamburg and built his clinic. He married his wife, Heike. She is also a veterinarian, small animals, and they each have their own clinic, both clinics on the same property with their home there also, but way back for some privacy.

Werner’s clinic has nicely grown. His staff is now 60. Fifteen vets, three of which he gave partnerships, then nurses, techs, grooms and office staff.

In his job, Werner says he often flies back to the USA, but not near Detroit. Perhaps he passes out cards at the Kentucky Derby. It sounds like his practice is international.

I believe he would love to receive short notes from school friends from Britton. We, Dave and Ada Stiles, live at 9200 Britton Hwy., Tecumseh, 49286. Should you like to send greetings, we will package those and send them to Werner.
